    GENERAL PRESENTATION
    -----------------------

The workshop will provide an international forum for the presentation of
new research results and the identification of future research directions
in the area of distributed algorithms.

The topics which will be discussed during the workshop cover the following
    areas of distributed algorithms:

o Algorithms for control and communication

          o Fault-tolerant algorithms

          o Network protocols

o Protocols for real-time distributed systems

o Issues in asynchrony, synchrony and real-time

o Algorithms for managing replicated data

          o Distributed detection of properties

          o Self-stabilizing algorithms

          o Wait-free algorithms

o Techniques for the design and analysis of systems

    -----------------------
    LOCATION
    -----------------------

Following the successful Workshops on Distributed Algorithms in Ottawa
    (1985), Amsterdam (1987), Nice (1989), Bari (1990), Delphi (1991), Haifa
(1992), Lausanne (1993), and Terschelling (1994), the Ninth International
Workshop on Distributed Algorithms will be held in Le Mont-Saint-Michel,
a very famous and beautiful place located on the northern coast of
    Britanny in France.

    ACCOMMODATION
    -----------------------

Hotel accommodation will be provided on Le Mont-Saint-Michel and
reservations are made by the organizing committee. A block of rooms has
been reserved at the Hotel "Les terrasses Poulard" (a three stars hotel)
at a walking distance from the conference room.
As accommodation is in high demand in September, early registration is
strongly advised. After Monday August 21, 1995, the registration fees
increases and hotel reservation will be on space-available basis only.

All personnal expenses (phone calls, bar, etc.) and extra nights spent in
the hotel room will have to be paid directly to the Hotel.

    -----------------------
    TRANSPORTATION
    -----------------------

International flights to Paris arrive either at Orly Airport (14
Kilometers south of Paris) or at Roissy/Charles de Gaulle Airport (23
Kilometers north east of Paris). Trains from Paris to Rennes (the most
convenient city close to Le Mont-Saint-Michel) leave the Montparnasse
    railway station approximately every hour.
There are several possibilities to go to the railway station Paris
Montparnasse. For each airport we indicate only the most convenient and
    the less expensive of them.

    o From Orly airport
Air France Buses leave every 20 minutes and drop passengers in front
of the railway station Paris Montparnasse. (travel time of 25 minutes.
      Cost 32FF per passenger).

o From Roissy/Charles de Gaulle airport
A fast train service connects this airport to the centre of Paris.
Special (free) buses run regularly from the terminals to the train
station (Gare RER). At the station purchase a ticket to Montparnasse
Bienvenue (approximate price 40 FF) - this ticket covers the train into
the city centre (an RER train) as well as the Paris Metro to get to
Montparnasse). Take the RER train, get off at Denfert Rochereau
station and transfer to Metro line No 6. (direction Ch. De Gaulle-Etoile
      - note: this is NOT at Ch. De Gaulle airport!) to Montparnasse Bienvenue
Metro station, which is directly below Montparnasse railway station (for
TGV). The journey from the Airport to Montparnasse usually takes about 1
      hour.

Warning: advance reservation is mandatory in TGV (high speed trains).
This can be made at the railway station while purchasing the ticket if
there are available places in the TGV.

On Tuesday 12th, a TGV will leave Paris Montparnasse
station at 4:20 pm to Rennes, arriving at 6:32 pm (TGV number 8647).
Catch this train or any other train which arrives in Rennes earlier.
A special coach will leave Rennes railway station around
6:45 pm, and will arrive at Le Mont-Saint-Michel at about 7:45 pm.

On Friday 15th, a special coach will leave Le Mont-Saint-Michel
after lunch to catch the train (TGV) leaving Rennes at 3:59 pm and
arriving in Paris Montparnasse at 6:15 pm (TGV number 8746).

If you have any questions about registration or transport etc.,
    please contact Elisabeth Lebret (wdag@irisa.fr).
